Improve the ventilation and air quality whenever you can. If you use your basement, change out the air frequently. Dryers take air from inside the room and then vent it outside. Electronic equipment uses up good air. So you will be creating a heathier environment. Fresh air also helps to eliminate moisture and mitigate radon.

Quality basement windows make a house look much nicer from the exterior and will enhance home value. Stout, durable looking windows will increase home security. The feedback we hear the most is "how much warmer it is downstairs and I wish we did this sooner"; another one is "how nice it is to have screens."

Cold air gets transferred into your basement through the metal and the thin layer of glass on your existing windows and through any drafty cracks between the window and the foundation. The older wooden windows do better, transferring less cold depending on the condition of the wood. However there is still only one pane of glass.

This cold air transfers through then sits and accumulates on the basement floor along with your furnace and hot water heater. These components have built in thermostats that turn on because of the cold air. Some units are located close to windows. On occasion heating pipes and heat ducts that run overhead are near colder existing non-insulated glass windows.
